About us

The Engineering Department at Damen Dredging Equipment consists of several teams in the field of mechanical, shipbuilding, electrical and automation. The design teams are product oriented, with a focus on trailing suction hopper installations, dredging pumps and drive systems, standard stationary suction dredges, and custom-built stationary suction dredges. The teams are managed by an engineering project manager (team leader) and operate independently. In addition to custom-built projects, the Damen organization also works continuously on standardizing and improving equipment and components. The manufacture of dredging equipment is carried out at our own shipyard but also at other shipyards around the world.

The role

The position is aimed at the design and realization of electrical systems for dredgers.

Key accountabilities

Your main task consist of determining the functional description of the dredging equipment, hardware selection and  creating information for production. You work in a small team of E&A Engineers and work closely together with mechanical engineering. Depending on the situation, one or more subcontractors may deliver parts of the installations. In that case, technical substantive management, such as determining the demarcations and specifications and checking the suppliers, will form part of your duties.

The basis of your work consists of working out the system integration, setting up the specifications and demarcations. This concerns both standard and customer-specific assignments. You support one of our engineering project managers and report to the engineering manager. In addition to the hardware side, It is considered an advantage if you have knowledge of automation, HMI and SCADA applications; as well as Survey, Hydrography and GPS systems.

Skills & experience

  • You are an enthusiastic specialist in the field of electrical engineering;
  • You are analytical, goal-oriented and you are a good team player;
  • You have a higher vocational education in (Maritime) Electrical Engineering, or a senior secondary vocational education course in this field with several years of work experience;
  • It is considers an advantage if next to your hardware knowledge, you have experience with programming PLCs (Siemens) and are familiar with the TIA Portal programming environment;
  • You have experience with making electrical (EPLAN) drawings;
  • You preferably have several years of relevant work experience in the maritime/offshore sector, or heavy machinery;
  • Knowledge of and experience with electric drives is an advantage;
  • You have a good verbal and written command of the English language and (willing to learn) basic Dutch.
