About us

Damen Shipyards is a dynamic and international company with more than 11,000 employees worldwide. We are an original family business and this can still be felt on the work floor. The open and fun atmosphere makes Damen a unique and pleasant employer. From offshore ships to the most beautiful yachts and everything in between, Damen is at home in all markets.

Our mission is to become the most sustainable and connected shipbuilder in the world. To ensure global prosperity for the next generations, responsible utilisation of the possibilities of the world’s seas and waters are essential. By expanding our leading position in the standardisation of shipbuilding we can provide sustainable, innovative maritime solutions.

The Corporate Finance department is part of the Damen Financial services division and is tasked with structuring and nurturing deals, as well as liaising with government and other stakeholders. There is an increased demand for these projects and the need has arisen to expand the department.

The role

Damen targets to act as a solution provider with impact for multiple maritime challenges in various regions. One of these challenges in (developing) countries is the water hyacinth. The water hyacinth is an invasive species affecting the biodiversity, economic development and the livelihood of local communities. The water hyacinth forms large floating mats which leads that fisherman cannot fish, jams marine traffic and threatens fish populations. Although ample of studies have been conducted, limited vessels are currently sailing helping to solve this problem. What is the reason for this and how can Damen together with stakeholders offer a durable solution? We invite you to elaborate on our technical and financial considerations to solve this persistent problem.

The aim of this assignment is to verify existing material, develop supply chain approach and create an investment memorandum with regards to a scalable solution based on a pilot project in Kenya. With the verification on existing studies, financial analysis and market/stakeholder study, you will make a business case in the harvesting and processing of marine biomass in Africa. Within the Damen organisation resources are available in terms of technical and financial knowledge including the relevant stakeholders (in the supply chain).

You will be part of the Damen Corporate Finance team. This internship offers you insight into activities within a multinational company, skills development (presenting, writing and developing ideas into a business case) and personal advancement.
