Tasks & Responsibilities

  • The Department Manager is a member of first company management line team and accomplishes the department objectives by managing staff in line with current and further requirements arising from company long term strategy, planning and evaluating NA department activities.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Coaching, counseling, and developing approaches for employees disciplining.
  • Encourage open communication between team members, suggesting and driving forward ideas about how the team can work more effectively together.
  • Identify training needs, provide planning for training and leadership for projects and general training purposes, including verification after training.
  • Give her/his opinion on resource allocation and is constantly aware about the projects composition team.
  • Attend the budget estimation process and planning in the initial stages of projects.
  • Is interested in motivating staff and proposes to MD the measures for retention of valuable resources in the Company.
  • Initiate and/or support MD for hire, promotion, discharge employees according to Company loading and needs over the coming period.
  • Through her/his behavior avoids the conflicts emergence and when still occur, is able to mitigate the effect or solve before rising dangerously.
  • Provides the necessary support to the Top Management in the product’s achieving process, acting towards continuous improvement of all company aspects in respect of technical achievements and working environmental.
  • Provides the necessary support to NA team members for set-up, manage and improve Company Standards and Procedures on the:
    • Quality control
    • Efficiency improvement
    • Working methods/instructions improvement
  • Manage of workload of NA team and prioritizing the corporate projects with an impact on resource.
  • Provides the support to Engineering Portfolio Manager/Project Managers for Tendering and Projects Negotiation, utilizing work estimation knowledge and previous experience for engineering budget and schedule whether necessary.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Naval Architecture (NA).
  • Over 8 years of relevant work experience in Shipbuilding Industry, preferably Design Office.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience on Managerial Position.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the shipbuilding design processes and the team leading procedures.
  • Positive thinking, openness, capacity of continuous learning, initiative, loyalty to respect the company’s interests and values.
  • Very good communication and team-working skills (with the discipline team members and with the Client). Experience in communication, verbal and written, with foreign clients.
  • Adaptability of management.
  • Style of directing to the diverse talents and aptitudes of its employees.
  • Support project team in finding the best solutions for the customer and the company.
  • Starting the initiative and submit ideas that translate into business development.
  • Skills to build relationship.
  • Advanced knowledge in English - written and verbal communication.
  • Human Resources Management knowledge/courses are a plus.

Damen Engineering Gdansk Sp. z o.o. is a new Damen Company located in Gdańsk (Poland), started activities at the 1st of August 2013, member of Damen Group. DEGd is responsible for delivery of design checks and basic design for Damen ships of several Product Groups. Engineering focuses on the development of both existing Damen ship types and new designs. The Engineering Department is also involved during the production phase of each ship and provides support as necessary. Damen Engineering Gdansk is looking for experienced Shipbuilding, E&A, Mechanical Designers as well as project management and support personnel.
