About us

Damen Shipyards Group has been in operation for over ninety years and offers maritime solutions worldwide, through design, construction, conversion and repair of ships and ship components. By integrating systems we create innovative, high quality platforms, which provide our customers with maximum added value.

Damen operates over 36 shipyards across 5 continents, supported by a worldwide sales and service network. Damen Shipyards Group offers direct employment to more than 12,000 people.

As Damen we have embarked on a journey from being an internationally operating shipbuilder towards becoming the world leading maritime solution provider to enable our customers to tackle those challenges swiftly and adequately. To facilitate this transformation several digitalization initiatives have been started within Damen.

Damen in Galati – we are here for the long run

Cooperation with Damen Shipyards Group – by then already well established in the Netherlands and starting to develop its international business – started in 1994 with the subcontracting of cargo vessel hull fabrication. In 1999, Damen acquired the yard and introduced its standardised shipbuilding approach. To date, the yard has delivered some 1,300 vessels, more than 450 of which have been built by the Romanian-Dutch shipbuilding cluster of Galaţi since 1999 for customers from 70 countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and the United Kingdom, making the shipyard in Galaţi one of the biggest Romanian exporter of vessels.
