The mission of IT&IM is to create business value by means of technology for Damen Shipyards Group by innovating the (digital) environment in which our colleagues, yards, ships, customers and suppliers operate.

The Damen Group IT&IM department consists of approximately 160 FTE and provides 24-7 service to 35 business units and 6.000 users. 

We are organized in Chapters per discipline and have several ‘’Squads’’, i.e. multidisciplinary teams that maintain and further improve/develop IT solutions. These Squads operate in Agile/DevOps style.

The role

Damen is in the middle of a Groupwide implementation of SAP as replacement for IFS and Baan. One Division is already life, others will follow soon. A SAP Template Team is managing and expanding the standard configuration, but as Divisions have some differentiating processes, local developments are indispensable. In this role you will be working on these developments in close cooperation with the Template Team and the SAP Support Organization. From the business requirements you know how to configure or develop the SAP functionalities and know when to call in specialists, when specific knowledge is required. You will be working on these continuous improvements, but also on maintenance and updates in a multidisciplinary SAP Development Squad. In an agile way of working, every 2 weeks new value is delivered.

For this role you need a broad overview of the SAP modules and functionalities, be aware of the standard configuration and the impact of localizations on support and maintainability.

Key accountabilities

  • Designing, configuring and deploying the solutions that enhance our SAP platform.
  • Understanding the needs of the users thoroughly, so that these can be transformed into working software and delivering value to the business.
  • Configure the solution in the available functionality and avoid customizations as much as possible (configuration-first above coding).
  • Partnering with the SAP Template Team to decide on global (standard) or local enhancements.
  • You partner with the SAP Support Team to discuss the optimal solution from support point of view.
  • Together with your team members you are continuously improving the team performance in all the scrum events (sprint planning refinement, sprint review, retrospective and daily scrums).
  • Peer review the work of your co-developers to ensure high quality solutions.
  • Create and update SAP enhancements specifications and supporting documentation.
  • Instilling quality by adhering to Scrum values and working Agile.

Skills & experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or equivalent education;
  • Good communication skills (English), able to work in an international team;
  • Minimal 3 years of experience in SAP Administration or SAP Consulting;
  • Experience with ABAP and Fiori;
  • Experience or knowledge of Agile /Scrum;
  • Experience with integration best practices;
  • Quick learner who wants to remain at the fore-front of SAP developments, eager to learn new skills;
  • Problem solver, team-skilled, outgoing in voicing ideas.
