Damen Offshore & Specialized Vessels

We design and deliver maritime projects for various markets like Defense & Security, Public transport, Offshore and Dredging.

Our projects are Engineered to Order (ETO). Which means we are involved throughout the project, from the commercial phase and building strategy, until commissioning, delivery and warranty. This makes our work very challenging because the environment is complex and we have a lot of stakeholders.

We work in close cooperation with various internal departments, (sub)contractors, teams on the shipyard and of course the client and her representatives.

For our Supply Chain Department we are looking for a specialist in Export Control, accompanied by good communication skills, analytical capabilities and a result driven mind set.

The role

Current regulations, administrations and laws combined with the Defense & Security Product Market Combination (PMC) in our division require an increasing knowledge of Controlled Technology and Export Control regulations and accompanying procedures. For this particular position, we are looking for an expert in this field to strengthen our Supply Chain team.

The Export Control Officer has knowledge of the rules & regulations regarding this topic and is able to apply them for the projects that are executed within our division. If the knowledge is not yet available you surely know the ways to get to this information.

In general you will be responsible for setting up and monitoring the supply chain reporting, challenging and coordinating the results to optimize the use of the supply landscape. Damen works with multidisciplinary project teams which are headed by a project manager.

This position is located in the Supply Chain department to create an overview across all projects mainly on Quality, Logistics, Timing, Cost, Risks elements and to advise the Supply Chain team of OSV. 

The diversity of supply chain activities is challenging. The department is supported by the Expertise Center Procurement of the Damen Group.

Key accountabilities

  • Set up and monitor reporting for the supply chain team for controlled technology topics;
  • Providing export licenses and EUC’s as part of the project teams;
  • Support D&P on new tenders regarding Export regulations and dual-use;
  • Create/report cost impact overview for tender/projects of controlled technology;
  • In early stage of the project support Procurement teams to make sure suppliers know what documents should be provided during the project phases;
  • Identify dual-use materials and make sure they are handled as such with logistics and correct documents (together with Damen Transport Coordination);
  • Develop knowledge and share to the Supply Chain team the regulations regarding dual-use, import/export in different countries (e.g. banned materials);
  • Provide your expert knowledge on Legal and Tax to the Design & Proposal and Operations teams and share knowledge with colleagues across all divisions;
  • Monthly coordination with yards and suppliers and share results with Supply Chain team;
  • Evaluating and challenging the project teams for correct registration and maintenance of information within the ERP system;
  • Initiating improvement programs in the supply chain team and with suppliers;
  • Suggest pro-actively improvements within the supply chain process. Supported by process control, analysis and measurable results (KPI).

Skills & experience

As this role concerns Dutch export rules and regulations, knowledge in this field is absolutely required! Besides that we would like you to bring the following:

  • Completed Bachelor's or Master’s degree (preferably in Industrial Engineering; Supply Chain Management; Governmental sciences; Public Administration or Legal sciences);
  • Proven knowledge and experience on Export Control rules, regulation and administration;
  • Masters working with an ERP system and MS Office (Excel);
  • Strong affinity with keeping track of laws, rules and regulation regarding import/export;
  • Good oral and written command of both Dutch and English;
  • Is pro-active in driving results and improvements;
  • Analytical and result driven;
  • Good communication skills.
