About us

Damen Marine Components (DMC) designs and manufactures a range of premium systems that are vital for the propulsion, manoeuvring and performance of vessels engaged in all types of maritime activity. Our primary products are rudder and steering systems, nozzles, winches, control and monitoring systems, hydraulics, deck equipment, anchors and chains. The first two categories are sold under the Van der Velden® trademark. In addition, Damen Anchor and Chain Factory is part of the DMC group. As well as supplying Damen’s global network of shipyards, we work closely with third-party ship building and repair yards and distributors of maritime equipment around the globe. DMC is focused on providing optimal manoeuvrability designs for every type of vessel, compliant with any classification society. With several office and production locations in the world, DMC is an internationally orientated company. The role

Van der Velden Barkemeyer GmbH is the Hamburg based subsidiary company of DAMEN Marine Components B.V. and for this Office we are now looking for a International Supervisor with “hands-on mentality”
You have a maritime background?
You are a strong character and know how to deal with people from Shipyards, Technical Superintendents and Class Surveyors?
You like to travel all around the World?

Key accountabilities

Your main job will be to represent our company best while supervising and guiding the services of our OEM Rudder Systems and Steering gears on ship yards worldwide, with creating final Reports for our Clients. Of course you should also not be afraid to get your hands dirty during a service job. So if you are looking for more than a boring “standard” Service Job, and don´t fear the unexpected during a Job, you are more than welcome in our Service Family.

Skills & experience

• Practical experience and knowledge in Maritime Business
• Technical understanding / experience in Mechanics, Work experience as service engineer and/or mechanic for a shipyard or supplier will be preferred (knowledge of Hydraulics would be a bonus)
• Unlimited willingness to travel around the world
• Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
• Experience with MS Office programs (Word & Excel) for reporting
• Team player with good communication skills
• Independency in solving problems in an international environment together with owners, class societies and yards

What we need from you, beside technical skills preferably in mechanics, fluent English and experiences in the technical side of the maritime business, is to be a good Team player who likes to work with a small but very kind team like ours in Hamburg. You need to be flexible with your time as the maritime world is more than Monday to Friday 08:00 am – 17:00 pm.
