About us

The standardization department of the division Workboats has a focus on the development and standardization of new and existing technology. We work closely together with suppliers and the rest of the Damen organization to find the best possible solution for as many ships as possible. We give support and advice to the business in the development of new shiptypes with the aim to further improve the quality and performance of the Damen products and services.

We are in the starting blocks to work in a more collaborative and efficient way by implementing system platform teams. These teams are in charge for the “building blocks” used within the ships. And because this multidisciplinary team is responsible for all disciplines and deliverables, from engineering to purchase and from requirements to commissioning, the lines can be short and the mandate high.

 

The role

As a Junior Shipbuilding Engineer, you are together with a multi-disciplinary team working the initiation and realization of the development and improvement of technical systems. After realization, you will support the implementation of new standards in existing and conceptual designs of ships. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, but with a focus on a few bigger developments.

You are responsible for your own projects, under guidance and supervision of an engineering project manager. You will work closely together with co-makers, suppliers and all relevant departments, such as Research & Development, Design & Proposal, Engineering, Services, Production and Quality Control. Your deliverables vary from drawing packages to (commissioning) documentation.

 

Key accountabilities

In this role you will be;

  • Designing and implementing  the next generation of standard solutions;
  • Providing technical advice to the business regarding the product range and it’s functionality, performance and quality;
  • Analyzing input of stakeholders like, Product Group, Engineering, Services and Suppliers;
  • Making a project plan and perform it from start to end;
  • Preparing sketches as proposal and making the final drawing of the standardized parts and solutions;
  • Making documents like functional requirements and installation- & commissioning protocols.

Skills & experience

In order to be successful in this role you'll bring the following;

  • have a quality consciousness and a practical approach;
  • are an easy-going person, pro-active, creative, showing ownership and result driven;
  • have a bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably in the field of naval architecture;
  • are interested in innovation and you have an open mindset to new technologies;
  • You master communication in English, Dutch is a plus.
  • 0-5 years of working experience in Engineering in the maritime sector;
