As Manager Purchase for the division Workboats, you are part of Damen Shipyard’s cornerstone.

Damen Workboats believes in standardization and series production. It is our vision to deliver fleets of connected, reliable and sustainable vessels smart-configured to fulfil their intended function. Production is arranged via the assemble-to-order strategy delivering vessels within a few months at a competitive price. We can quickly scale the operation up or down, responding to the market demand.

Purchase is part of the department Supply Chain. Having the responsibility for a continuous and reliable supply chain to serve the Workboats factories in having a steady flow of production. Combining the standardized assortments and the supplier partnerships, reacting in a responsive and efficient manner to meet client specific requirements is realized.

The Manager Purchase is part of the coalition to make this vision reality: help realizing the cultural and organizational change of being a project oriented organization to a process oriented organization.

Key accountabilities

  • Formulate the procurement strategy and develop the department plan in line with the Workboats Supply Chain strategy and business needs.
  • Develop, manage, implement and monitor the realization of the procurement plan and steer on performance. 
  • Lead, coach, appraise and develop the team.
  • Inform the team about (business) developments and advocate and support the Damen Workboats strategy.
  • Ensure the organization and execution of procurement for Workboats Supply Chain.
  • Signal and analyze relevant procurement developments with regard to suppliers, prices, cost developments and opportunities.
  • Manage and arrange the assessment, selection and performance of existing and new suppliers and monitor service level agreements in line with contractual agreements.
  • Continuously seek for improvements of procurement processes, procedures, tooling and systems.
  • Initiate and implement potential improvements regarding productivity, quality and (cost) efficiency of the supply chain.

Skills & experience

  • Higher vocational education (HBO) level of thinking with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • 5-10 years of manager experience.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in procurement, including supply chain. 
  • Linguistic ability in both English and Dutch.
  • People and stakeholder management skills, organizational awareness and a high sense of responsibility and ownership.
