Damen Engineering Gdansk is a competence center for engineering to order one offs and prototype vessels with a strong drive for optimizing ship performance. We are set up to be involved into the engineering process from the moment when an idea is generated by the client to the vessel delivery. We are responsible for transforming the initial design into a complete and practicable engineering package. The experienced engineering department is also involved during the production phase of each ship and provides support as necessary. Close collaboration with the client during the whole process allows us to quickly respond to any changes and ensure we are delivering tailor made solutions.

The role

Material Coordinator holds a critical role in planning and  logistic of  deliveries to construction sites and/or other customers in such a way that they can be delivered correctly and on time.

Key accountabilities

  • Checking, correcting and completing parts’ lists of technical drawings and BOM’s.
  • Checking alignment with technical specifications, class rules.
  • Close cooperation with production (yard) and designers in case of deviations reported.
  • Extraction and calculation of material size by means of Scope of Supply, specifications and drawings, supplementation/completion of BOM’s.
  • Determining the scope of delivery in detail (numbers, types, manufacturers, delivery time) based on specifications and Scope of Supply, supplementation/completion of BOM’s.
  • Selecting parts and materials to be purchased from BOM’s and releasing them to procurement and the warehouse.
  • Preparing and monitoring logistic (material) planning for various construction sites.
  • Collecting and analyzing information from builders, engineering team, procurement, project manager and central warehouse.
  • Determining the desired/latest delivery date, introducing schedules in an automated system.
  • Monitoring the progress of the plans, identifying and intervening in the event of deviations or imminent overruns, making proposals to prevent them and coordinating with various internal (engineering team, purchasing, project manager, central warehouse) and external parties (suppliers, construction sites).

Skills & experience

  • Technical education on Bachelor or Master level related to shipbuilding.
  • 3+ years’ professional experience in logistics and planning connected to shipbuilding.
  • 3+ years’ professional experience related to purchasing and production technology in shipbuilding industry.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems related to purchasing, parts’ and materials’ management.
  • Experience in reading diagrams (P&ID), technical drawings and data sheets.
  • Knowledge of technology and production process related to shipbuilding.
  • Good command of English in speaking and writing, including technical language.
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both as a team player and individually.
  • Attention to details.
  • Planning, prioritizing and organizing skills.
