Family owned business Damen Shipyards Group has been in operation for over ninety years and offers maritime solutions worldwide, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. Damen operates 36 shipyards in 18 countries. We offer direct employment to more than 12,000 colleagues, bringing together a total production value of 1.8 billion euros and delivering 143 ships in 2020.

The Marketing department is based in Gorinchem and is established for the entire Damen Shipyards Group and all its divisions and endorsed brands. Within this department, the Customer Experience team leads the technology transition required to facilitate the marketing and digital sales processes within the Damen IT landscape and architecture. In doing so, this team focuses on the customer-facing applications (websites, MyDamen portal-environment, and others ). We are looking for a Product Owner to join this team for 40 hours per week. Damen recently delivered a brand new website, built in a Headless Architecture. And we are still developing and working to add new functionalities to our website. And also are still migrating standalone websites of our sister companies to our new ONE Damen Website.

The role

To support and realize the Digital Experience vision we are looking for a Product Owner Website.

As a product owner of the Damen website you have a strong vision on how visitors of the website will engage, get inspired and how the website can support the business goals of Damen. You are an expert in thinking with the voice of the customer in mind and have experience in translating the products and services into customer centric offerings. You have a deeper understanding on how relevant customer touchpoints in the customer journey can be integrated in the UX flow of the website.

You will be responsible to collect all business needs and requirements. You will be the spokesperson to the development teams about future development needs. You are a great-process thinker. You can create a structure in chaos. You are able to write clear and sized user stories, which are the input for the development team. You are also a real networker, you can talk easily with all kind of different users cross divisions/units. And you are able to think of business implementation and roll out plans.

As a product owner you are the central point of contact who is managing together with the development team the implementation of new features, continuous development of the website and creating a roadmap to improve and create more business value. Also you are responsible to align and make prioritizations of all needed changes and improvements. Therefore you have strong communication skills, you are able to act as a liaison between business, IT and our Vendors and you are able to organize and manage multiple activities.  Development and maintenance of the Damen website is being done with external parties, therefore understanding of vendor management and building long-term partnership-relationships with vendors is a very important aspect of the assignment.

Next to the activity of continuous developing a modern, interactive, commercial website, you are also the contact person to maintain and run the website on a day to day business. You are managing the demand and requests to the website support team, located in the Ukraine.

As a product owner you have an understanding of the Agile way of working, or eager to learn and get certified as a product owner.

Key accountabilities

  • Responsible for the Product Backlog (a clear description of the product Backlog items, raking the priorities of the items, optimize the value of the work of the project team and ensure that the project team correctly understands the items of the Product Backlog)
  • Creating a vision of the final product and follow the developments on the market
  • Be informed about and in control of the progress of the whole project by participating in the meetings of the Scrum team
  • Maintenance and management of the website on a day to day basis
  • Collaboration with relevant stakeholders to manage and collect all wishes and needs, responsible for priority setting and decision making based on functionality and creating value and ensuring the ultimate use and activation of customer data,
  • Provide trainings and advice in relevant product technology for the wider marketing team to ensure a basic product maturity within the team
  • Working closely with marketing operations and activations to support from a product perspective
  • Managing the roadmap, budget and activity planning in close collaboration with vendors who are supporting and partnering in the development of the website
  • Analyze data (Google Analytics for example) and determine improvements to create more value and engagement online

Skills & experience

  • Higher vocational education (HBO) or academic (WO) level of thinking with at least 5 years of relevant experience in developing retention-processes, customer journey thinking, customer-loyalty or related environments
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills, rigorous attention to detail and bias for customer-centric planning
  • Experience in UX-thinking or website development activities. Understanding of website development activities, like search, SEO/SEA, Content management
  • Proven track record for driving measurable results in project delivery environment, or run projects/activities with a strong customer-focus
  • Ability to build roadmaps, create vision to inspire and engage stakeholders
  • Understanding of the complex field of digital marketing, like omni channel campaign management, Social media, email marketing and customer support
  • Capacity to understand, challenge and connect Marketing plans on all channels (CRM, Media, website) will be a plus
  • Experience or knowledge of Agile/Scrum
  • You enjoy working in a team, are effective at planning and organizing, and you are results focused
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to give clear direct feedback, set clear expectations and connect with people on a personal level
  • Excellent command of the Dutch and English language
  • Availability of 40 hours per week
