Damen Offshore & Specialized Vessels.

We design and deliver maritime projects for various markets like Defense & Security, Public transport, Offshore and Dredging.

Our projects are Engineered to Order (ETO). Which means we are involved throughout the project, from the commercial phase and building the PM strategy, until commissioning, delivery and warranty. This makes our work very challenging because the environment is complex and we have a lot of stakeholders.

We work in close cooperation with various internal departments, (sub)contractors, teams on the shipyard and of course the client and her representatives.

We do this with an international team of ‘can-do’ people that are developing new and innovative technologies and ways to support customers and push for a more sustainable maritime industry.

The role

As Senior Project Manager you own the full scope from Engineering to Order (ETO). You are involved from the start of the project, while working closely with the product managers, until ultimately building the ship in the yard. Thus, our Project Managers are involved from the tendering phase to Engineering, Supply Chain up until finish. Warranty will also be part of a project.

We belief that as Project Manager you should be where the action is, which means you will travel abroad together with the project team.

You make a successful project your priority, working with the overall Damen interests in mind and taking client wishes into account.

You are excellent in managing stakeholders, both internally and externally, in a culturally diverse environment.

A project team typically covers a group of 5 to 20 direct members and approx. 200 people in the total project, depending on the size of the project. You are responsible for managing a project with a value that can vary ( >100 mio). You report to the project board, which includes the Managing Director of OSV and the responsible Sales Director.

Key accountabilities

  • Co-assess commercial leads and being involved in tendering;
  • Formulate and advice the project execution strategy, taking into account contract management, supply chain, (local) governance, including risk management;
  • Set and/or formulate project scope, planning, budget, time, HSSEQ requirements and internal guidelines;
  • Build project teams; delegates responsibilities, realizing strong relations;
  • Manage recourses on project level;
  • Steers, motivates employees, contractors and stakeholders;
  • Monitor the realization of agreed planning, budget and all other targets, with a strong safety mindset;
  • Safeguard meeting all requirements, ensuring timely interventions;
  • Function as the main liaison between client and Damen throughout whole ship building process. Including liaising with area sales management..

Skills & experience

In order to be successful in this role you bring, besides at least a higher vocational or academic level of thinking:

  • 10-15 years of project management experience regarding in a relevant setting (shipbuilding, oil and gas construction, large capital goods realization);
  • Proven ability to oversee and handle a large variety of aspects and issues, regardless the nature (financial, legal, HSSEQ, HR, operational progress, commercial);
  • By nature, a professional and balanced attitude. Fueling discussions that have to take place and de-escalation when needed;
  • Excellent stakeholder management;
  • Both a strategic view and a practical mentality;
  • Dealing well with ambiguity, taking into account context of Damen organization;
  • Actively looking for entrepreneurial opportunities;
  • Taking ownership and ensuring accountability;
  • A good command of the English language.
