About us

Damen Services is the total services provider and business partner of Damen clients worldwide. We provide a wide range of maritime support services which relate to all aspects of the commissioning, deployment, operation and lifetime extension of ships and their installations.

More than 330 colleagues are active for Damen Services around the world. We have a strong focus on the further enhancement of local presence and the development of our portfolio through the employment of our knowhow combined with the use of digital tooling. We run a healthy business with approximately 150m EUR production volume in 2023 and an annual growth rate of circa 10%.

The main office is located in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. Over the past years Damen Services has focused its development on increasing the service level for customers by establishing 11 fixed service locations (hubs) from where >25% of the total staff works and is pay rolled. The knowledge gained from working in locally supported partnerships with our customers is being translated into new service products supporting further growth in business potential.

 

The role

Our largest service hub is located in the United Arab Emirates. The entity is registered in Dubai, working from three office locations; two in Dubai and one in Sharjah. Here we employ circa 30 staff members covering all our services and support functions for the entire Middle East region.

For Damen Services Middle East, we are looking for a Director. As Director, you are responsible for the entire Service Hub organization and all activities undertaken by Damen Services in your area. You report to the Managing Director of the Damen Services Division.

Key accountabilities

  • Set up the local entity and further develop the local organization;
  • Determining and realizing a (local) mid-term strategy based on market demand and in-line with Damen Services policy;
  • Ensuring the workforce in the short and longer term, so that the appropriate personnel is available in time to perform service and maintenance, construction supervision and commissioning;
  • Conducting performance appraisal and assessment interviews with staff;
  • Ensuring excellent mental as well as physical working conditions for the workforce to perform at top level;
  • Responsible for all (warranty and commercial) Services activities in the Middle East;
  • Monitoring the operational implementation processes and initiate and evaluate improvements on the process level;
  • Conducting consultations with the (potential) customer about the technical, functional and other specifications of possible assignments;
  • Responsible for client satisfaction; Have fun and enjoy your work with Damen (Services).

 

Skills & experience

  • At least a Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, ship or maritime engineering;
  • A minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in leading roles in an (international) service organization, preferably in the maritime sector; Preferable experience with setting up a local entity and experience in working abroad within the maritime sector;
  • You are a people manager with managerial experience. A strategic thinker with excellent overview and good communication skills;
  • You are genuinely interested in colleagues and have a good feel on how to handle cultural differences;
  • A good sense of humor;
  • Fluency in English written and spoken;
  • Skilled in Dutch and or Arabic is a pré;
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of Sales Force and SAP s/4 HANA is a pré.
