Passion has guided me from the start

“If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be passion.” For Ionela, that passion started long before project plans and deadlines. Growing up in Romania, she spent hours watching ships pass by. They were never just steel structures, but stories in motion. “My future was always clear. My fascination with ships felt natural.”

From the riverbank to the yard

Ionela studied Naval Architecture in Galați and joined Damen Galați more than eight years ago, starting on the production floor. There, she learned how a design comes to life. After moving into Engineering, she became an Engineering Coordinator. Soon after, she was ready for the next step. “I wanted to broaden my knowledge and challenge myself.” She applied for a Project Manager role and has now been working in this position for almost three years.

Bringing people and projects together

As a Hull Project Manager, Ionela ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget and at the highest quality. “It may sound like a business description, but in the end, it’s about people.” She connects teams across Engineering, Production and Outfitting, making sure collaboration starts early and runs smoothly throughout the project.

Building something unique, every time

Ionela is currently working on her third Amels 80 project. What stands out most for her is the focus on the client. “The client is truly heard.” Even within a series, each yacht is tailored to the Owner’s wishes. This requires flexibility, speed and continuous alignment across teams. “We work like a family. There is trust, openness and shared responsibility.”

Growing through challenges

Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry has shaped Ionela’s leadership style.
“Credibility comes from professionalism, consistency and results.” She believes leadership is about bringing people together and working towards a shared goal.

One journey, across borders

One of the most meaningful moments is when a hull leaves Galați for Vlissingen.
“That moment is pure pride.” It marks the transition to the next phase and reflects the collaboration between teams, locations and expertise.

A shared signature

Ionela may not leave a visible signature on the yachts she helps build, but her contribution is always there.
“My signature is responsibility and dedication, but it is never mine alone.” From welders to engineers, everyone plays a part. Together, they create something that travels the world. “If they are satisfied and able to truly enjoy their time on board, then we have done our job well.”
