From Procurement to Helpdesk to AI

Vincent Loeve’s journey at Damen

Eighteen years ago, Vincent Loeve joined Damen Shipyards at the Purchase department “Workboats” helpdesk. Today, Vincent leads the AI Adoption Team, helping Damen implement smart tools and shape the future of shipbuilding.

Learning the business from the inside out

As a purchaser, you’re at the center of it all, connecting different departments, working closely with Design & Proposal, Project Management, Engineering, Work Preparation, Warehouse, Transport, and Production. “You learn every part of the process,” Vincent says. “You see how everything connects.”

After 11 years, he was ready for a new challenge. Having taught himself IT in his spare time, he transitioned to the IT Service Desk, supporting over 6,000 workspaces across Europe. “Our job was to fix problems and get people back to work. Later, it became about preventing issues and helping colleagues work smarter.

Jumping on the AI ship

When AI tools started entering the workplace, Vincent saw an opportunity. “I felt the need to jump on that ship,” he says. In September 2025, he became AI Adoption Lead in the Digital Steering And Control department. His mission? Help the teams confidently use AI tools to work more efficiently and creatively.

Vincent supports the rollout of platforms like Microsoft Copilot, which integrates AI into daily tasks while keeping data secure. Damen also partners with AI consultants across platforms like SAP, Salesforce, Workday and Maximo to ensure smooth implementation.

Bridging tech and business

Vincent’s journey is anything but linear. Going from procurement to IT to AI gives him a unique edge. “We’re all gears in the machine. I understand where the business gets stuck and know how to link the right people and tools together. That’s where I can make a difference.”

Building smarter tools

Vincent even developed a carpool app using AI. Designed for company events, the app has potential to evolve into a general carpool tool with a CO₂ calculator, another step toward sustainability and smarter mobility.

Team spirit and board games

What keeps Vincent motivated? Strong team spirit. “We hang out after work, having drinks and play board games like The Quacks of Quedlinburg. It says a lot about how well we work together.” Remote work isn’t their style. “We prefer being at the office. It helps us stay connected and keep work and private life separate.”
